Whether you’re interested in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, public health, nutrition or fitness, preparing for a career in health care is not a single decision but a series of choices based on exploration, investigation and reflection. At the UW, “pre-health” is not a major or a track — it’s a set of steps you take toward becoming a health professional. The process includes:

  • Actively exploring a variety of health care professions to learn how different types of health care work might match with your own strengths, motivation and preferences.
  • Preparing for a selected health profession, including study and vocational training.
  • Assessing readiness to apply to professional schools, selecting schools, preparing for and taking entrance exams, and creating a compelling application.
