Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, public health, nutrition or fitness. At UW, choosing a career in health care is not one decision but a series of decisions based on exploration, investigation and reflection. At the UW, “pre-health” is not a major or a track. It is a process you go through if you intend to enter a health professional field. The process includes:

  • Actively exploring a variety of health care professions and understanding the type of work involved and how this matches with your personal strengths, motivation and preferences.
  • Preparing for a selected health profession, including academic and vocational preparation.
  • Assessing readiness to apply to professional schools, selecting schools, preparing for and taking entrance exams and preparing a compelling application.

Pre-health advisers at the Career & Internship Center are available to assist current UW students through this process.
