How to prepare for college

Next steps

Your student applied, now what?

As students are waiting for admissions decisions to arrive, they often have time to think about their applications and what they could update. If your student finds themself in this situation, encourage them to review the I applied, now what page, which outlines what updates are accepted. When in doubt, have them contact their admissions counselor for more information. Note that changes to first- and/or second-choice requested major must be made by January 15.

FAFSA/WASFA Priority application date - January 15

Does your student plan to apply for financial aid? Be sure to have them file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by January 15 in order to maximize their aid eligibility.

Apply now

Families living in Washington who are not eligible to file the FAFSA should complete the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). For more information visit the Washington Student Achievement Council website.

All freshman autumn applicants are notified of their admission decision March 1-15. Decisions are released in batches and will be available to students on their MyUW during the notification window.

  • Students invited to the waitlist will see their invitation on MyUW and will need to opt-in to the waitlist by April 1.
