Thank you for applying to the University of Washington. We received more than 43,000 applications for an expected entering class of 7,000, making the selection process very challenging.

While we are unable to offer you admission to the UW at this time, we would like to extend an invitation for you to join the freshman waitlist for autumn quarter 2020. If the UW is your top college choice, we hope you will accept this invitation.

To join the freshman waitlist, complete the online form using your UW NetID.

  1. You will be asked for identifying information and an update to your senior-year coursework. We understand that the COVID-19 crisis has affected senior-year schedules, and we are certainly taking this into consideration.
  2. The deadline to submit the form is April 1.
  3. You may find that colleges follow different practices in maintaining waitlists. For example, the UW does not rank within the waitlist.

If spaces in the freshman class become available, waitlist decisions will be based on the information you provided in your application and the information you provide in the online form. Additional materials, such as transcripts and letters of recommendation, will not be considered.

We cannot assure admission to any student on the waitlist. The number of students admitted from the waitlist varies greatly from year to year: In 2018 no students on the waitlist were offered admission. However, in 2019, 2,394 of the 3,040 students on the waitlist were offered admission. Therefore, we advise you to confirm your intention to enroll at another college or university by May 1 to ensure that you will have an enrollment option this fall.
