Now
What?
We appreciate the time and effort that you put into your application to the UW. We want to make the next stage as clear and painless as possible.
All Applicants
- Check periodically (at least once a week) the email that you gave us on your application. It’s the only way we will communicate with you for a while.
- But will those emails arrive in your Inbox? Set your spam filters to make sure that email from @uw.edu or @u.washington.edu can get through.
- If your email address changes, Contact Admissions right away.
Now, let’s see what’s ahead for different types of applicants:
-
- 26,000 notification letters are going out now. If you haven't received yours yet, don't panic. They will all be mailed by March 31.
- Letters of admission arrive in a small (Husky) gold envelope printed with Dawg paws and the words the BIG envelope. This is our little hint because we send the small envelope first and we don't want students (and family members) to think this small envelope = bad news. A Welcome packet in a large white envelope will arrive a week or two later.
- Students receiving an invitation to join our waitlist should respond quickly, according to the instructions inside. The deadline is March 31.
- Helpful tips for students on the waitlist. Despite common belief and much discussion on the Web, students on the waitlist are not rank ordered — for example, 10th on a list of 100. If space for some students on the waitlist should become available, decisions will be made at that time and will be based only on the application materials already on file and on the senior-year information students were asked to complete when they were invited to join the waitlist. Please do not send additional materials, such as transcripts or letters of recommendation, as they will not be considered. All students on the waitlist will be notified of a final admission decision sometime between May 15 and August 1. We will try to make waitlist decisions earlier in that period rather than later. If we cannot — because we do not have enough information about enrollment for autumn quarter — we will send an update. We know it's really hard to wait, and we appreciate your keeping the UW on your list. But please don't forget to confirm your intention to enroll at another college!
