When you’re choosing a college, it’s all about location. Your world will be larger than your dorm room and the campus’s ivy-colored buildings (although we’ve got plenty of West Coast ivy!). For several years you’ll be a citizen of some town or city – living, eating, exploring, and voting. To choose the University of Washington is to live in Seattle, a thriving, manageable city of 573,000 people, and the heart of the Puget Sound region of 3.5 million people. Getting to know the city and taking advantage of its opportunities are part of every student’s education.

If you’ve never been to Seattle, this visit will show you the highlights that no one wants to miss. If you’ve been here before, discover some new sights and sounds. Use the links handpicked by our Admissions staff to begin trying out the life you’ll be leading as a UW student. We think you’ll like what you see and want to come back for more.

University of Washington was founded in 1861, the first public university on the West Coast.
