1. What is WACAS?

WACAS is designed to assist students planning to transfer to the University of Washington. WACAS helps students plan course work at community colleges so that they work toward multiple requirements at the same time, such as associate degree requirements, admission requirements for the UW, major requirements, and UW graduation requirements.

WACAS gives students the ability to:

  • Research the requirements of one or more majors at the UW.
  • Verify transfer credit by inputting courses taken (or to be taken) at Washington community colleges.
  • Have community college course work evaluated against the requirements of one or more bachelor’s degree programs at the UW.
  • Update information saved in their account, ensuring accurate transfer planning.

2. How can WACAS help me do my job?

WACAS is not a panacea for the complicated issues surrounding academic planning, and it is most certainly not a replacement for face-to-face advising. But it is a very powerful tool, especially when students and advisers use it together.

  • You’ll have new resources to show students how to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the most efficient way possible.
  • You’ll spend less time in advising appointments evaluating what students have already done and more time addressing what they can do next.
  • You and your advisees will make more valuable use of your time and expertise, because students will come to advising appointments better prepared.
  • You won’t need to wonder if you have the most current information about UW program requirements: WACAS is constantly updated.
  • You’ll have new resources to challenge students with creative ways of thinking about the transfer process: Planning Guides outline UW requirements for any program students are interested in, and WACAS makes it easy to apply transfer credit to different degree programs.
  • You can help students ease their transitions to the UW: the Planning Guides that WACAS creates for prospective students are presented in the same format as those for enrolled UW students.

3. Why should I create an adviser account?

If you are an adviser at a Washington community college, we strongly recommend that you create an adviser Account, which allows you to:

  • Establish an Account for a student.
  • Review a student’s Account before or during an appointment.
  • Research the applicability of courses to UW degree requirements.
  • Compare various transfer scenarios to assist students with course selection and academic planning.
  • Demonstrate the benefits of WACAS Account to students interested in transferring.

4. OK, I’m sold. So how do I create a WACAS account?

Select “Log in” from the WACAS homepage .

  • Select “New User” and follow the directions.
  • When asked to select a community college to establish your account, select the college that employs you.
  • Once you have completed your log-in information, contact the WACAS representative on your Washington community college campus to request adviser access. Your WACAS representative will need your log-in name.
  • Your adviser access should be available within 7 working days.

5. Whom do I contact with questions?

Many questions can be answered by reviewing the FAQ’s in the Info for Students section. You may also talk to the WACAS representative on your Washington community college campus.
