Equivalency Review Process: Guidelines for Community and Technical Colleges

The Office of Admissions coordinates course reviews between the community/technical colleges and UW academic departments. To identify new courses and changes in content of existing courses, we conduct periodic, comprehensive reviews based on the most recently published edition of catalogs from community and technical colleges.

New course entries are then included in the Course Equivalency Tables of the Equivalency Guide. Additionally, new courses and course changes brought to our attention are reviewed and added to each college's equivalency tables on an ongoing basis.

WHAT WE NEED FOR EQUIVALENCY REVIEWS

Washington community and technical colleges that wish to have courses reviewed should send us all of the following information:

  • Cover letter or memo from the college's transfer coordinator that describes the request;
  • Course description and outline for each course;
  • Syllabus for each course, to include title(s) and author(s) of assigned textbook(s), as well as a list of assigned chapters from each textbook;
  • If possible, a sample final examination with key for each course;
  • An indication of how each course may be used toward requirements for the academic associate degree; and
  • The quarter and year that each course will be first offered.

You can send this "syllabus packet" in one of two ways:

Electronically:
  • Save attachments (such as a syllabus or final exam) as Word, PDF, Text, RTF (Rich Text Format), or HTML documents; and
  • E-mail the attachments containing all of the information listed above to the Equivalency Review Coordinator

Please mail two sets of each syllabus packet to:
