The Husky Promise

We believe that students from all economic backgrounds should have the opportunity to attend the University of Washington. Finances should not be a barrier to getting an education.

President Mark Emmert

“We believe the inability to pay should not prevent any Washington student who academically belongs here from earning a degree.”

UW President Mark Emmert

The University of Washington has a long history of providing access to all citizens of the State of Washington regardless of their economic means. The University is committed to ensuring that low and lower middle-income students can afford to choose the UW.

To ensure the UW remains affordable, beginning autumn quarter 2007, the Husky Promise guarantees that full tuition will be covered by grant or scholarship support if you are a low- or lower middle-income student and a Washington resident. These grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid. If you qualify for the Husky Promise you can be assured that if tuition increases, the University of Washington has you covered!
