Statement of Financial Responsibility

International students and their families or sponsors must assume all responsibility for student expenses. Financial assistance from the UW is not available to international students.

US immigration laws state that all international students who will enter the US on an F-1 visa must demonstrate that he or she has sufficient funds for one academic year. As part of the UW application process, all international students must complete and sign the Statement of Financial Responsibility form and submit it along with the UW application for admission.

  • If you are applying online – the Statement of Financial Responsiblity form is part of the online application. You are not required to submit any additional financial documents if you complete the online application.
  • If you are applying on paper – the Statement of Financial Responsibility is the last page of the paper application. Complete the form, sign it, and mail it to the Office of Admissions along with your application form and other application materials. No other financial documents are required when you submit the paper application.

Current US immigration regulations require all international students to show proof of funding before immigration documents can be issued for the F-1 student visa. If you are offered admission to the University, you will be required to submit an original bank letter or statement that shows proof of funding for one year. We will not be able to prepare immigration documents for the visa application until proof of funding has been received. Additional instructions will be sent with the offer of admission packet. Please do not submit bank documents or statements at this time.
