The Course Work Grid
An accurate and complete listing of all courses completed during grades 9-11, as well as courses to be completed during all terms of the senior year-both high school and college course work-must be listed on the course work grid of the application. It is imperative that you carefully follow the instructions for completing the course work grid. Without clear and complete self-reported information, your application will not be fully reviewed and you will be ineligible for admission.
High School Transcripts
The following applicants should NOT send high school transcripts at the time of application.
(See #2 below for a list of the situations in which applicants DO need to submit transcripts.)
- Attended high school in Washington or elsewhere in the U.S. Applicants should not submit transcripts at the time of application. If the Office of Admissions determines that your high school transcript is needed, you will be contacted at the email address you provide on your application, and you will be given an individual due date for submitting the record.
The following applicants MUST send official* high school transcripts.
These transcripts should be ideally submitted at the time of application but in any case no later than the application deadline.
- Attended high school outside the U.S. If you attended any part of grades 9-12 outside the U.S., you must submit your official* high school transcripts, along with official English translations of these transcripts and these must be original records directly from those schools, not just recorded on a U.S. high school transcript.
- Homeschooled. Documentation for course work completed through home school education must be submitted by the closing date. Consult Guidelines for Homeschooled Students.
- Student athlete. Students who expect to participate in intercollegiate athletics must submit the necessary information to the NCAA Eligibility Clearinghouse and must also submit official* transcripts to the UW at the time of application.
- No longer in high school. If you have already graduated or have left high school with no expectation of graduating, your final high school transcript is required. The final transcript should be your final high school record showing all course work attempted or completed during your high school years.
College Transcripts
- College enrollment. If you enrolled in college course work at any time before your senior year, you must submit by the application deadline an official* transcript from each college. College enrollment includes course work attempted or completed during summer school; through distance or online learning; and through Running Start Programs or other dual-enrollment programs in conjunction with a regionally accredited college or university that awards college credit. Exception: If the college you attended was the University of Washington, you do not need to request a UW transcript.
*Official Transcripts
A high school or college transcript is considered “official” if it bears the official seal and authorizing signature of the issuing institution and is sent directly by the institution to the Office of Admissions or sealed by the institution and mailed or delivered to Admissions by you. If the envelope has been opened before it arrives in the Office of Admissions, the transcript is not official.
Note to students attending Washington community or technical colleges: You must contact the community college to request that transcripts be sent. Washington community colleges send transcripts electronically to the UW, and this is the format we prefer. These are considered official, and no paper copy is then necessary.Where Should Transcripts Be Sent?
