Fee Waiver Procedures

For students with confirmed financial hardship, the University of Washington is happy to provide a waiver of the $50 application fee.

There are two ways to apply for a fee waiver: on paper or online.

Applying via postal mail using a print or PDF version of the application: Include a short letter explaining the need for your request. Attach your letter as a cover sheet to your application materials so that we see it the minute we open your packet.

Applying online: Complete the simple form below -- at least 3-5 days before you plan to click the “Submit” button on the application. Submit your fee waiver request and receive a response by email within a few business days. If your request is approved, the reply email will include a waiver code. This code is for your use only and it can be used for only one submission of the UW Seattle freshman application. You must save the email to make sure your code is entered exactly as provided to you, or it will not work. Should you decide later not to apply, this code cannot be transferred to another student or to another quarter.

Please note that fee waivers are typically granted to students who qualify for low-income programs. Any fee waiver granted is conditional until your application can later be confirmed by FAFSA data.

Before completing the form below, please make sure you have already created your login and begun to work on the online application. The login will be entered in the form below, along with a few other key pieces of information necessary to match the fee waiver request to your application file. It is imperative that you provide an email address that you check regularly, and it should match the email address you enter on the application itself.

Receiving a fee waiver will not have any bearing whatsoever on your application for admission, nor will the information provided below be released to anyone for any purpose.

To help us confirm your eligibility for the fee waiver, please provide information in one or more of the following three categories:

1. To report low family income to us, provide income and family size information from 2006 and/or 2007 below. These answers should match your answers to the online application, questions F-25a or F-25b.
2. If you have received a test waiver and accompanying application fee waiver from either the ACT or the College Board (SAT), provide the reference code from the your SAT fee waiver card (this is a code either six characters long with a barcode at the top of your form, or twelve characters for online registration at the bottom of your form). If you instead received an ACT fee waiver, simply check the box below. (You will be informed if a photocopy is needed in the future for our reference.)
