All applicants are notified of the admission decision, whether offered admission or not, in writing. For privacy reasons, we are unable to give out admission decisions over the telephone. Notification is a continuing process so we cannot give a specific date on which you will be notified.
Checking Your Admission Status

- Within a week or two of its receipt and entry in our student data base system, the Office of Admissions will mail a letter confirming that it received your application. That letter contains private information and instructions, allowing you to set up your own UW NetID and MyUW online account.
- To set up your UW NetID and MyUW account, you will first need two confidential access codes included in your acknowledgement letter. If you have recently submitted an application, please allow sufficient time for this mail to reach you.
- If you have already established a UW NetID, you may login now to check the status of your application in your MyUW account. Please note: Information will be available only if your application has already been entered in our student data base system.
- Online Applicants: Your UW Net ID is NOT the same as the login you used to work on your online application for admission. You won’t be able to create a UW Net ID until you receive a letter from Admissions—by postal mail—which includes instructions and an initial access code.
The Notification Timeline
Although a small number of decisions are made earlier, most admissions decisions are mailed in late March or early April, after all applications have been reviewed.
The May 1 Reply Date
As you probably know, May 1 is the date by which you must inform the college of your choice that you will enroll. Rest assured that all applicants will be notified in plenty of time to consider and finalize a college decision by May 1.
The Waitlist
Only applicants who have received a waitlist invitation letter are eligible to be placed on the waitlist. To be placed on the waitlist, you must complete and return the “Waitlist Response Form” included with the letter by the date indicated on the form.
Students on the waitlist are not rank ordered (for example, 10th on a list of 100). If space for some waitlist students should become available, decisions will be made at that time and will be based only on the application materials we had on file at the time applications were originally reviewed. Please do not send additional application materials.
We are not likely to know if we will be able to admit applicants from the waitlist before mid-June. We will send an update to all waitlisted applicants by the end of June.
To give some historical perspective, there have been years when most waitlisted applicants were eventually offered admission and other years when very few were offered admission. Because of this uncertainty, we strongly advise those on the waitlist to confirm their intention to enroll at another college or university for this autumn.
