BUSINESS
Jennifer Creighton, graduate, Construction Management
Business fuels the economies that run the world. From the local construction company to the national department store to the global telecommunications conglomerate, businesses create growth, provide jobs, and offer us better products than we’ve enjoyed before. Businesses develop, produce, and distribute the goods and services we use in our daily lives-from the coffee we drink in the morning to the computer we use to check email. Imagine the Internet without business. Imagine any city street without business. Imagine a world without imagination.
Businesses are people, working together. From entrepreneurs and visionaries to managers, accountants, and salespeople, people make businesses go. Businesspeople are restaurant owners, presidents of construction companies, and founders of the next dot-com. They believe in new ideas, in the power of teamwork, and in taking risks. Most of all, they believe in themselves. Who makes the world go round? Maybe you do.

Student Profile
“I had always planned to be an attorney, and my first bachelor’s degree was a double major in political science and society and justice. I changed my mind after learning of the numerous job opportunities available in the construction industry. I like being outdoors, and I enjoy the tangibility of what I do: it gives me a sense of pride to see a building I helped create. Construction management is fast-paced, always moving, and always a challenge-like being the conductor of an orchestra. During my senior year, I had a paid internship in downtown Seattle with the construction firm that built the Cancer Care Alliance, a nationally recognized leader in care and research. This enabled me to put my classroom learning into practice and gave me the hands-on experience needed to succeed in this field. I had a job lined up before graduation.”
